A Question of Democracy or a Question of Character. Ben Gvir Under the Microscope.
I received an email from a friend of mine regarding the article of September 6, entitled When is Democracy not Democracy? He questioned Itamar Ben Gvirs’s credentials as a Democrat. Quote; Hi Yosef, not sure if one can call Itamar genuinely democratic. End quote.
Here is my reply to my friend’s query. Manus, have another read; I never suggested Ben Gvir was a paragon for Democracy.
I was criticising the left for its hypocrisy in pretending to be the defenders of Democracy when they oppose equal rights for all people.
I should make clear that I reject Democracy for the Arabs in the Jewish State and, by extension, reject its Western icon status.
Democracy for whom and what price are we prepared to pay should the Arabs ever become the majority? Ahh! Then the luxury of entertaining Democracy will no longer be sustainable. End quote.
As for Itamar Ben Gvir’s Democrat credentials, one can only look at his subject record. Ben Gvir ran in the 2021 Israel Legislative election, successfully being elected to the Knesset. Where he has participated in free and open debate regularly and at no time has he attempted to undermine the Democratic process. Rather Ben Gvir has been a staunch defender of the Democratic process.
In turn, he has been the victim of Leftist politicians and their media allies who have attempted to create in him an enemy and a target to lash out at whenever the Leftist agenda is under threat. These Left/Liberal nannies employ an abundance of half-truths and twisted facts to blame him for all sorts of questionable behaviour while trying to destroy his political career. These hypocrites would have you believe Itamar Ben Gvir seeks to exploit the people and deprive them of their Democratic rights. What absolute nonsense. These leftist moralists are guilty of sabotaging the Democratic process over the last four elections and are preparing to do the same after November 1.
It’s the likes of Itamar Ben Gvir and Otzma Yehudit who will defend the freedoms paid for in Jewish blood rather than the self-seeking assimilationists who see authentic Jewish values as a threat to their leftist/liberal agenda.
Be aware your vote on November 1 is critical to the future direction of the Jewish State.
