American Jewry Lectures Israel on Judicial Reform.
The Jewish Federation of North America on Tuesday lectured the Israel government on its Judicial reforms stating “…we urge you to make clear that a simple majority of the Knesset is not sufficient to overide a decision of the Supreme Court,” they went on to say. “The essence of democracy is both majority rule and protection of minority rights.
The Jewish Federation of North America seems to have trouble with their own logic as in one breath they are saying Israel needs to respect the essence of democracy and abandon their electoral promises regarding Judicial reform.
The essence of democracy was on display in the election of November 1 2022, when the majority of Israelis voted for a government that electioneered on Judicial reform amongst other vital issues.
When they say the essence of democracy is both majority rule and protection of minority rights, they should add that democracy is a system in which individuals tend to vote either in terms of their interests, or in terms of moral ideas, which in our century so far are commonly of a sentimental kind. It is this very case that where the sentimental moralism of Israels left and Americas diaspora jews leads to the entrenchment of illusion in contemporary democracy. Their opposition to the majority decision in this case may seem to them ideologically “a better outcome” for the country yet in all probability if successful in over turning the reforms would lead to a worse result for Israel society itself.
The street protestors, political hacks and diaspora activists are individually hedonistic, while collectively dutiful to the politically correct ideology they so aspire to and these reactionary forces would have you believe they are defending ethical public policy over mere politics. When infact their motivation is to be found in their politics.
One last word on diaspora Jews agitating against an elected Israel governments Judicial reform policy. While ever they continue to live under the laws of the United States or any other foreign country they should be disqualified from undermining the laws of the Jewish State which they choose not to become citizens.
