Israel Jewish and Democratic a Schizophrenic Problem.
I have just finished reading an article in the Jerusalem Post by Uri Pilichowski on Israel being Jewish and Democratic at the same time. He tackles some of the inherent problems of squaring a Zionist Israel with an inclusive Democracy for all, regardless of religious and ethnic background. In the end, the writer, while accepting the shortcomings of a Jewish and Democratic state, settles for more of the same and kicks the can down the road for another day.
What Uri Pilichowski and many Jews fail to see is no matter how much verbal gymnastics is applied to the problem, the problem remains. The answer to the problem is there can be no Jewish State and an inclusive Democracy for all citizens of Israel. They are like oil and water and can never mix.
The uneasy relationship between liberal democracy and an authentic Jewish State is to be found in the ignorance, perversion, corruption, the counterfeiting of original Zionism to be found in the Jewish teachings of the Tanach (Bible). How far we have moved from authentic Judaism and true Zionism, replacing its core values with those of western democracy and liberalism. Too many Jews have prostrated themselves at the altar of liberal western values, turning their backs on authentic Jewish values.
The facts are the Zionist State as a thoroughly Jewish State can only be based on the Jewish people, their role and their purpose in this world. And it is based on the connection of the Jewish people to the Land of Israel. Once this Land becomes the reserve of every other people, then Israel’s mission is in jeopardy. The Jewish State runs the risk of spiritual assimilation and the granting of foreign governance over Eretz Israel.
Western liberal democracy is a surefire way for the Jewish State to commit national suicide it would just be a matter of time. Unless we are prepared to bite the bullet and declare openly Israel is exclusively a Jewish country for the Jews and only for the Jews. We would respect the civil rights of those non-Jews who are prepared to acknowledge Jewish sovereignty over all the land and its institutions. They would not hold the right to vote or claim citizenship but would share in the privileges given to Jews.
The choice is between a Jewish State or a non-Jewish one with all its social, cultural and moral problems. We did not dream for nearly 2,000 years of becoming another America, United Kingdom, Germany or Australia.
