It’s Time Israel Cut Uncle Sam’s Apron Strings.
Republican Presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has reopened the debate on American aid to Israel. He has set a potential date should he go all the way to the Whitehouse to phase out US aid to Israel by 2028. The aid package is worth US$3.8 billion annually to the Jewish State.
I agree with Ramaswamy. American financial aid is not helpful to Israel in the long term as it allows for the self-interest of another country to influence Israel’s interests domestically and abroad. Often to the country’s detriment. America’s generosity can only cripple the Jewish State, not benefit it as many would like to believe. At some point, the United States will abandon Israel as self-interest dictates. As other nations have done in the past.
Israel should take this opportunity to cease accepting any US foreign or defense aid, thereby cutting the strings attached. Israel is no longer an economic basket case. It’s an economic powerhouse and still growing. To replace the US$3.8 billion would cost the Israeli economy approximately 0.06 % of GDP.
Surely it’s time we let go of Uncle Sam’s apron strings before they let go of us.
