Netanyahu: The Comeback Kid!
Once again, in a long political career full of ups and downs, Netanyahu has been written off by nearly all the political pundits and some of his colleagues. Yet, like Houdini, he may well escape his naysayers, while his popularity with many Israelis could be the lifeline he is looking for.
October 7 may prove pivotal for Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu in crucial ways. For his political life is at a crossroads. His refusal to buckle under immense American pressure to stop the Gaza conflict and accommodate the Palestinian Authority in taking over the administration of the Gaza strip is re-establishing his tarnished reputation as a man of action who understands the grave issues of war and peace confronting the Jewish State in the 21st century.
Netanyahu could well curse the ruthless times Israel now faces and despair of finding a way out of the tangled mess the country finds itself in. Instead, he can imagine a long-term future for the Jewish people and their country. Netanyahu is in the process of overcoming the tragic losses Israel has suffered with resilience and courage, demonstrating formidable strength of character and acceptance of the nation’s tragedies as leader of the country.
Politically, this year has been a milestone. When it began, Netanyahu’s position was precarious and remains so. No one can be sure whether he is heading for political oblivion or the best years of his Prime Ministership. Damned for his role in the October 7 security fiasco or hailed as a bold and far-thinking leader is yet to be seen. The next twelve months will be crucial in answering that question.
Whatever happens, Binyamin Netanyahu can never be written off. He is the comeback kid.
