Abraham Foxman ex-national director of the Anti-Defamation League for 28 years and Holocaust survivor. Has gone on record denouncing Donald Trump as a demagogue and a threat to American democracy.
Foxman doesn’t stop there but claims Trump is bad for America and bad for Jews. He says further When our democracy is weakened, and when nativism is stoked, the rights of Jews and other minorities will be diminished too. It may not happen overnight, but it will happen, and Jews know this well from bitter experience.
Foxman states his reasoning is simple and stark: Trumps presidency – in spirit and in fact – has given succour to bigots, supremacists, and those seeking to divide our society. He and his administration dehumanize immigrants, demonize the most vulnerable, and undermine the civility and enlightened political culture that has allowed Jews to achieve what no Diaspora community outside Israel can claim in two millennia.
Foxman goes on to state a case for Trump destabilizing America’s traditional influence abroad and its international credibility etc.
He finishes on a personal note of optimism as he waxes lyrical over Jewish American politics that was more quietist, more hesitant, a politics of a minority too accustomed to keeping its head down.
Foxman is glad, that American Jews left this behind – and says its another reason he cannot be silent at this inflexion point in history.
He ends his piece with these words… Nor can any of us, for the sake of our nation, our people and our world.
Let’s step back for a moment and take a critical look at Abraham Foxman’s premise that Trump is the cause of all America’s woes today and the potential catalyst for an outbreak of anti-Semitism on a scale unseen in America up until today.
As to the statement, Trump is bad for America and bad for Jews how does that stack up when confronted with the facts not emotions.
Firstly Trump had up until the Covid19 lockdown achieved some quite remarkable results for an economy that had suffered under the Obama Presidency and seen Socialism take a more aggressive stance in all sectors of American society. Black and Latino workers had never been better off financially. As for American Jews and the State of Israel, the threat does not come from Trumps administration but rather from the very people Foxman supports. In fact, he joins the ranks of those who would intimidate and weaken an insecure and unsure Jewish diaspora. The very Democratic party of Biden that he invests so much moral capital are the agents for every perversion the malcontents embrace. They are unconcerned with the greater good and are determined to destabilise the social and economic fabric of the United States.
The new socialists that Foxman admires so much are currently recruiting to their cause a generation of self-indulged youth with promises to share in the fruits of materialism and the pursuit of happiness for happiness sake.
While what they really want is the end of the free market that has checked socialism of any stripe making inroads into American society. That has now all changed and Foxman’s Democrats are leading the way for socialism to take control of America’s institutions as well as its cultural values.
Should this occur there will be no place for a Jew in the “Never Never Land”!
Foxman has aligned himself with the likes of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, Bernie Sanders and the rest of the anti-Semitic gang that pervades to days Democratic party.
Where is his indignation when it comes to Black Lives Matter, Me Too movement, and let’s not forget Antifa to days ‘Brown Shirts’ the terrorist arm of the socialist wing of the Democratic party as they demonize Jews and all that was positive in America?
Does Foxman not know these groups are all avowed anti-Semites and against the Jewish state’s right to exist?
As I don’t know his mind I can’t answer that question however his words and sentiments will suffice till we do.
Foxman’s adherence to the American dream is exactly what will stop him and other diaspora leaders from anticipating the direction anti-Semitism will come from. He like so many will continue to grab onto the exile while disassociating themselves from their nationality and rejecting their homeland. Foxman is part of the problem, not the solution that lies at the heart of today’s diaspora supporting every crackpot ism while ignoring endemic intermarriage and assimilation that sees some 60,000 to 90,000 Jewish men and women lost every year. National disintegration is rampant coming off the back of ignorance and self-hatred and what does Jewish leadership offer Jews of the diaspora at this moment of crisis silence yes silence regarding their fate. Instead like Foxman, they fall back on empty platitudes while promoting and supporting the very forces soon to be unleashed on an unsuspecting Jewish diaspora.
They talk of being loyal Americans when they should be encouraging the people to seriously consider aliya not as an option but rather as an imperative to Jewish survival. Why does Jewish leadership not sound the alarm, while our people move closer to disaster?
Where are the leaders who will proclaim loudly “Liquidate the Galut or the Galut will liquidate you,” as Zev Jabotinsky did prior to the Holocaust.
Unfortunately, the Jew chooses to live in the Galut (Exile) as if the Holocaust never happened as if 1948 is still a dream rather than a living reality in the guise of the Jewish State of Israel.
