Rabbi Meir Kahane Horror Revisited!

Last night’s shooting in Huwara of Meir David Kahane, grandson of the late Rabbi Meir Kahane zt’l and Achiad Libman, is a timely reminder of the horror in all its cruelty when Meir Kahane was silenced by an assassin’s bullet in New York in 1990 to be followed in 2000 by the murder of his son and daughter-in-law while driving home from Jerusalem on the Ramallah bypass road. Their five daughters, aged two months to ten years, were injured, one seriously for life.

The loss of these Jewish patriots can not be measured in years. Their tragic deaths left the Jewish State leaderless and confused to this day. Rabbi Meir Kahane’s vision for Israel is as pertinent today as it was thirty-three years ago. His son Rabbi Binyamin picked up his father’s blood-soaked fallen standard and, for a brief moment, gave us hope that his father’s vision for Israel was in good hands. Sadly, it was not to be. He was cut down before his time.

And now Rabbi Meir Kahanes’ grandson has tasted Arab hate, wounded in a shooting attack while going about his business. Meir David Kahane and Achiad Libman were not just victims of another Arab crime. They, like thousands of other Jews, have fallen victim to forgetfulness, a disease that weakens Israeli society while strengthening our enemy’s resolve to overcome the Jewish State.

Rabbi Meir Kahane and his son warned the Jewish people of the growing epidemic of spiritual loss of identity and cultural assimilation that mercilessly tears our people apart. At the same time, the vision of the Jewish State rapidly slips through our fingers, leaving us neither strength nor desire to confront the forces that would see the end of Israel.

Now more than ever, we need the leadership of a Kahane to stop the destructive trend and replace it with authentic Jewish values lived by proud Jews.

Yosef Yigal Drever and Sylvia Drever co-founded Achdut HaLev in 2006 to reach out to the Jewish community's around the world providing support in learning Torah and promoting the 'Return of the Jewish people to the Land of Israel.' Yosef Yigal made Aliya in 2014 while Sylvia his wife is an Israeli. In late 2014 Achdut HaLev concentrated all its resources towards Aliya and the rebuilding of Eretz Yisrael. Excluding none and embracing all. The commandment to settle the Land of Israel is equal in importance to all the Torah Commandments all together: (Sifri Deut 12:29)
