Russia & Co are on their way. Israel watch-out!
“Russia doesn’t recognize Israel’s sovereignty over Golan Heights that are part of Syria,” Russian deputy ambassador to the United Nations told the UN Security Council last Wednesday.
This may well be the first of many such statements to undermine Israel’s sovereignty as Russia starts a propaganda campaign against the Jewish State before it takes military action against Israel at some time in the future.
Sound fanciful, then think again Russia has no intention of stopping at the Golan Heights. Putin’s objective has always been to engage Israel in a military campaign, and one needs to look no further than today’s invasion of a sovereign state Ukraine to understand Putin’s modus operandi.
Putin is a master of opportunism and will use whatever pretext comes to hand, relying on the objectives to go for and the chances of securing them without intervention by other powers as he has done in Ukraine. Putin has profited from the divisions and hesitations of the West and relies on them continuing in this vaine.
If any country has good reason to fear Russia and its allies’ intentions, it is Israel. While Putin feigns friendship towards the Jewish State, the reality couldn’t be further from the truth. The reason for Putin’s attitude is the need to placate any potential opposition until he feels Russia’s position in Syria is strong enough to risk Israel’s hostility with equanimity.
In the current climate, Israel should view any attempt by the Russians to change the status quo of the Golan Heights as an act of aggression against the State of Israel.
Israel must not submit to intimidation or threats to its sovereign borders but instead accept the challenge at any time thrown up by an aggressor, whoever they may be.
