Afghanistan is now in the international rearview mirror regardless of the rights and wrongs of a dishonorable retreat.
Stop bleating it’s gone. Yes, the lessons of Vietnam were not heeded in the case of Afghanistan or Iraq. They both originated from a meltdown of international order and ended with an ignominious capitulation of power by America and its Nato allies.
Afghanistan was always going to be a failure in nation-building, the effort to establish international order was never going to be achieved by outsiders who chose ignorance of the fact that Afghanistan society rested on non-state organizations whose interest lied in no specific territory other than their traditional tribal lands and clan affiliations.
What started as a war of international consensus ended twenty years later in chaos and perfidy on the part of Bidens America.
Afghanistan can look forward to a de facto partition, between Russia, China, Pakistan, India, and Iran. These nations should beware of the poison chalice the land of the Afghans has been and continues to be to all those who dare cross the Hindu Kush.
Afghanistan was a distraction from the main event whose stress fractures have been appearing all along the Yemen Saudi Arabian border and the cracks continue to multiply from Iraq, through Syria, and Lebanon while coming to rest on the northern borders of the Jewish State. Here is the future main event. The world ignores what’s going on from Sa’dah to the Golan at its peril. Forget about Afghanistan it was a shadow play. Saudi Arabia and its client Emirates have been in play for quite some time and the heat is about to be turned up to boiling point.
America can no longer preach to the world in all good faith of its universal values of freedom as it submerges its own society in a quicksand of amoral if not immoral woke ideology embracing everything from cancel culture to sexual deviation on a scale not seen since the last days of the corrupt, imploding Roman Empire.
This is why many of Israel’s outspoken enemies now seek a compact with the ‘little satan’ as they are convinced America will desert them as they have deserted their international responsibilities in recent history.
The Jewish State is all that stands between the Saud family and Co taking up permanent residence at Londons Savoy Hotel or remaining Rulers of their oil-rich kingdoms.
While the thought gives one a mild case of moral indigestion it beats the alternative of an Iranian-dominated Middle East. And to think it was a short hop skip and jump from a failed Afghanistan to a potential conflagration not seen since the second world war. Something to think about.
