The Tide is Turning; Israel’s Left is on the Decline.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has more political lives than a cat. Once again, we see the beginning of another Netanyahu comeback as Israel’s left loses favour with the electorate. Gantz is on the decline while Itamar Ben Gvir and Betzalel Smotrich gain electoral support. Israeli society is tired of pretentious rhetoric, deliberate vagueness and double talk studded with irrelevant cliches. They want unambiguous results and will not settle for the same old snake oil remedies employed by politicians on both sides of the political divide to conceal the poverty of thought that often verges perilously near a confidence trick.
The political realm is populated by impostors or poorly equipped populists who offer counterfeit solutions to Israel’s problems with Arab nationalists within its borders. The people are no longer prepared to accept the bankrupt solutions of the past. If October 7 did anything, it shattered the illusions once and for all that with enough compromise towards the Arab population, Israel would finally achieve a lasting peace. No longer are they prepared to support leaders who choose the contemptible evasion of the facts by the foolish or the weak or those who shrink from reality and live in a fool’s paradise content to deceive themselves into thinking all is peace and happiness when in reality some terrible historical upheaval is around the corner. They are fed up with the feeble rationalisations of men who cannot face the truth.
The Jewish State deserves better, and its hoped that post October 7 will deliver on that hope. Jewish sovereignty depends on authentic Jewish solutions overcoming the enemy within and the enemy surrounding the Land of Israel.
