TRUMPS WORLD ISRAELS OPPORTUNITY
United States President Donald Trump laid out his vision for the future direction the United States would pursue under his Presidency and an assessment of his administration’s achievements during the last twelve months as he addressed the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday 25, September 2018.
United Nations General Assembly 25 September 2018
Trump’s speech was a mixture of hubris and actual achievements.
He seemed to suggest his Presidency had shaped the contemporary world order and would continue to shape the future direction of economic, social, political, and strategic policies within the International arena.
President Trump’s vision is one of contradictions and paradox. On the one hand, he speaks of an isolationist America eschewing International responsibilities while on the other hand, he seems to proclaim a forward America setting the world agenda for the future.
This doctrinal schizophrenia is a cause for concern in Foreign Offices’ around the world. Inherent in this doctrine is the potential for severe miscalculations between competing powers not seen since the First World War.
Strategic and Foreign Policy Naivete
Strategic and Foreign policy naivete has the potential to bring any one or more of these competing powers to the brink of war.
The balance of power whether it be in the South China Sea or the Middle East is going through a historical ‘change of the guard’.
Irrespective of America’s bellicose response to North Korea’s bombast and its subdued military presence in Syria the United States runs the risk of losing its legitimacy and the overwhelming ‘power factor’ should it fail to reimpose its hegemony around the world.
If President Trump actually follows through on his ‘New World Order’ vision we would see a breaking down of ‘Law and Order’ that will lead to a catastrophe involving the military might of the four emerging power blocks; eg; China, Russia, Europe and the United States and their client states.
China’s Xi Jinping and Putin’s Russia, in particular, are constantly probing America’s resolve and this is seen most starkly in today’s Iraq and Syria. Where Russia and her partners Iran and Turkey are attempting to redraw the Map of the Middle East.
Israel Stands Alone
Tiny Israel is all that stands between Russia, Iran and Turkey from realising their plans for the region which if successful would bring Europe to its knees without firing a shot.
In the meantime how did we arrive at such a dangerous place? A very large part of that was the consequences of President Obama dismantling U.S. Middle East foreign policy and replacing it with Iran as virtually the new favoured state in the Oval Office.
While Obama sat in the White House there would be no action taken to threaten any power that attempted to dominate the Middle East.
Obama Be My Guest
This power vacuum was quickly filled in 2015 by a very ambitious Vladimir Putin. The result of Americas’ own disparaging view of its strategic interests, which if left unchecked would guarantee those ideologically committed powers would set the agenda in the future while America would see its position in the world diminished and its resolve questioned at every opportunity by those convinced of its imminent decline as the ‘One Super Power’.
Its now up to Trump to genuinely be prepared to act to defend the interests of the United States wherever those interests are threatened.
At this very moment its difficult to be sure with clarity just what American thinking is on foreign policy issues from Asia to Europe.
Coming back to the Middle East and in particular the ‘Jewish State’ its time for Israel to redefine its capacity to shape its future and determine its posterity.
Firstly the ‘Two-State’ solution has to be finally discredited and abandoned once and for all.
Secondly, those peoples who are currently living in the State of Israel while actively working towards its demise need to be removed from its borders immediately without recourse.
Thirdly Israel’s Government, Institutions and its sovereign people need to recognise we ‘stand alone’ and have always stood alone in the face of annihilation. And be aware alliances exist only in defined common interest and when that common interest no longer coalesces then friend becomes a potential enemy.
Should we a free people harness the genius of our eternal vision with optimism and conviction that comes with Trust in the G-d of Israel we will finally see Israel emerge from the shadows and be ‘a light unto the nations’.
Israel’s leadership and its people need to meet these challenges ‘head on’ and brace for the backlash.
The rest will be a footnote to history’s story.
