Yair Lapid a Question of Leadership
Yesh Atid chairman Yair Lapid said on Thursday 28 January while a guest speaker at the annual conference of the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) criticized the Israeli government for angering the United States during the Obama Whitehouse and warned the sovereign Israel government from doing the same with the current Biden/Harris administration.
Lapid said “Public statements that anger the new administration is no way to gain a seat at the table. We lost our seat at the table as the result of an unnecessary conflict with the previous Democrat Administration, this was a mistake.”
Wrong we lost our seat at the Obama/Biden table because the then US administration was anti the Jewish State from its first day in office when it telegraphed its intention to marginalize Israel and downgrade the relationship built by previous administrations from Truman to Bush by calling Mahmoud Abbas before calling Israel’s Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and then Obama spelt out his agenda for the Middle East in his “A New Beginning” speech delivered on 4 June 2009 from the Major Reception Hall at Cairo University in Egypt. The venue was chosen deliberately to leave no one in doubt as to America’s change of policy towards the State of Israel.
Lapid seems to have overlooked the foundational principle of any countries foreign policy and that principle rests on one thing and one thing alone self-interest. America does not and will not support Israel as a result of political pressure nor because we are perceived as sharing the same democratic values not yesterday, not today and most certainly not tomorrow.
For the moment Israel continues to serve American self-interest and while that continues America will play its double game with Israel and the fake Palestinian people.
When Israel is no longer seen as an asset we will be disowned, unloved and stabbed in the back a victim of American pragmatism and self-interest.
So Yair Lapid, you are either ignorant of the workings of Foreign policy or you feel the need to curry favour with America’s power brokers, either way, you fail the Jewish people with your desire to appease those who work to undermine the Jewish State.
We should fear no one except fear itself and put our trust in the living G-d of Israel.
If Lapid and those like him would stop supplicating the American giant and putting fear into the hearts of your fellow Jews I suggest you work to bring as many Jews from America and the rest of the world to Israel to build an independent strong nation that only fears the G-d of Israel.
This is a question of leadership and one that is crucial to Israel’s security and its ongoing sovereignty. If leadership is a question of vision about the direction in which one country deals with another as equals then the use of rational persuasion, should be used to shape a common agenda between sovereign nations and should one nation choose to dictate policy for the other to the detriment of that nation then the other nation should forcefully state its case without fear or favour and ward off the embrace of the other before it leads to the status of a client state and eventually a postscript in history.
The bottom line in the end is a question of leadership.
