Israels War Cabinet Crucial In Achieving Victory!
With Gadi Eisenkot and Benny Gantz threatening to leave the emergency government. The make-up of the war cabinet becomes crucial to achieving a comprehensive victory rather than a pyrrhic victory that would leave Arab nationalists in control of Gaza, claiming they won and they would be right in so doing. The Hamas-Palestinian flag would still be flying high over Gaza.
As for Ganz and Eisenkot’s motivation, it is obvious as they weigh up their electoral options for the day after Gaza. Their politics are as much about competitive games as instrumentalities for meeting recognized needs or satisfying political ambitions.
This brings us to any future war cabinet post-Gantz, Eisenkot. It’s imperative that the likes of Lieberman, Ben Gvir and Smotrich join the war cabinet. Yes, the three would have to bury the hatchet while ever Gaza remains a battlefield on Israel’s southeastern flank. That said, a united front by these three players would achieve the immense psychological value of a united attack on a common enemy. All is to be gained by playing up the coming together of three Jewish patriots who are prepared to let bygones be bygone in the pursuit of victory, arousing public opinion to unite behind the current government as it fights internal Arab nationalism and American self-interest.
Finally, the functional approach depends on creating as many political ties as possible across the political divide to negate the influence of existing political vested interests. All existing members of the Knesset must be encouraged to cooperate in solving the detailed problems confronting Israel’s security and defining what Gaza must look like after the conflict ends and to be in no doubt as to who was victorious.
