We have been here before !
Iran’s Supreme Leader is beating the drum once again, threatening Trump with massive reprisals and regional conflict. Khamenei’s bellicose rhetoric is colourful if nothing else. The facts are, we have been here before. In June 2025, Israel launched a surgical air campaign over Iranian skies, devastating the country’s air defences and exposing Tehran’s military shortcomings. By the end of the twelve-day conflict, the United States had joined the offensive and dealt a crippling blow to Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Preceding the conflict Irans leaders, verging on hysterics, were threatening Israel and the United States with deadly reprisals. Post-conflict, they upped the ante in verbal posturing as to their ability to cause maximum death and mayhem, bringing the Jewish State to its knees. Neither occurred, and in fact, during the preceding two years, Israel had severed the head of Hezbollah, castrated Hamas, sent Syria’s dictator Bashar al-Assad into permanent exile and exposed the Mullahs’ nakedness amidst regional geo-strategic realities.
Never mind that the Iranians launched waves of ballistic missiles towards Israel on two occasions during April 19 2024, and again on October 1 2024. Failing miserably to impact Israel in any serious way, all this despite their hubris and empty boasts of Israel’s imminent demise.
However, Israel’s outstanding success in bringing Tehran’s boasters to book is no guarantee of a future free of the threat of annihilation. As we write, Iran, with Chinese and North Korean assistance, is rebuilding its air defence capabilities while salvaging what’s left of its nuclear ambitions and replenishing its stockpile of ballistic missiles.
Should China’s efforts prove productive, Israel will need every advantage it can muster to stymie Iran’s deadly intentions towards the State of Israel.
