Zionism versus Assimilation!

Never in the Jewish people’s history have we been tested by the destructive national tragedy which is raging today throughout the Diaspora. This catastrophe is unique in its destructive powers. Many calamities have befallen us, bringing destruction and horrific loss of life leading up to the loss of six million Jews in the Holocaust. However, this destruction is different not in degree but in its nature.

The Holocaust was unique in its destruction of the Diaspora itself. Bringing forth a rebirth of the Jewish Nation in the Land of Israel after 2,000 years of neglect and apathy, the ingathering of its sons and daughters was unstoppable, leading to the declaration of a restored Israel in 1948.

What, then, is this national catastrophe eating away at Jewish life in the Exile? Plain and simple national suicide through a lack of Judaism and Jewish identity, the unravelling of the traditional family and a low birthrate and above all, a plague of intermarriage and Jewish assimilation into the gentile world.

The cold, hard facts are that Jewish life in the Diaspora is very quickly disappearing and now confronts a critical time, one challenging Jewish survival in the Diaspora, facing spiritual and national disintegration. It would appear we have suppressed the message of Auschwitz; the Diaspora is a curse, not a blessing. We have, in turn, not fully grasped the significance of the State of Israel as the redeemer of its people.

Today, the rise of anti-Semitism is once again a deadly, infectious disease that threatens the very existence of Jews. The one antidote for this disease is the return to Zion. If you want to survive as a Jew, flee to Zion for redemption and freedom. The message of the Holocaust is that the Jewish People as a nation in exile has ended. The time is now to serve the exile with a writ of divorce. Let’s end this curse and embrace the blessing of life itself!

Israel Chai!

Yosef Yigal Drever and Sylvia Drever co-founded Achdut HaLev in 2006 to reach out to the Jewish community's around the world providing support in learning Torah and promoting the 'Return of the Jewish people to the Land of Israel.' Yosef Yigal made Aliya in 2014 while Sylvia his wife is an Israeli. In late 2014 Achdut HaLev concentrated all its resources towards Aliya and the rebuilding of Eretz Yisrael. Excluding none and embracing all. The commandment to settle the Land of Israel is equal in importance to all the Torah Commandments all together: (Sifri Deut 12:29)
