Somaliland has entered the Big Game !

Somaliland just became a strategic asset. Israel’s recognition of Somaliland as a sovereign state independent of Somalia on the 26th December 2025, is a game-changer in the balance of power in the Bab el-Mandeb, becoming a threat to Houthi-controlled Yemen and the Islamic Republic of Iran’s 47-year hold on power.

Somaliland’s strategic value to Israel is its proximity to Iran and the Iranian Houthi proxy, just 250 km from Somaliland. If Israel were to capitalise on its new relationship, it could use its formidable airpower to strike within 45 minutes at Houthi launch sites and 4 hours to attack Iranian military facilities and, most importantly, its nuclear sites. It seems a near certainty that Israel will base a temporary strike force of combat aircraft while developing facilities for its submarines. Whatever the future holds, Somaliland has just emerged from obscurity and entered the ‘Big Game!’
