Silence is Golden and Pre-Emptive Action is Paramount !
Israel runs the risk of sounding like another empty Trump. With the Defence Minister, Israel Katz, once again threatening Iran with ‘what Israel did to Hezbollah in Beirut, it will do to the Iranian regime in Tehran’. Not for the first time has Katz made such threats in line with the repetitive aggressive language of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.
Israel cannot afford to play the Trump card full of verbose language threatening Iran and its proxies with terrifying consequences while stepping back from every Red Line laid down by President Donald Trump, losing credibility in the process.
Israel must put up or shut up! There is no in between. The rhetoric of hubris and fanfare is not traditionally Israel’s modus operandi; that’s the preserve of Donald Trump’s bluster and showmanship, not that of serious leadership. Israel runs the risk of actually believing in Trump, based on his support for and assistance to Israel up to this point. There is no reason to think Iran’s leaders are going to embrace peaceful relations with Israel in particular and the West as a whole. The mullahs will pursue their policy of getting the nuclear bomb and furthering their belligerence against Israel. President Trump does not see a major attack on Iran as being in the self-interest of the United States. In the meantime, behind closed doors, a proposal to compromise on Iran’s nuclear program is moving ahead while the Trump Administration attempts to get Israel onboard in exchange for security guarantees. Given Trump’s Foreign Policy fiasco and constant backflips, those guarantees could eventually seem hollow in hindsight.
The Jewish State cannot afford to play loose and free with its people’s future security. Therefore, the politicians must shut up and act according to the Jewish State’s self-interest.
Under these circumstances, ‘Silence is Golden’ and pre-emptive action is paramount.
