What Next for Israel ?
Whatever happens next in geo-political parlance, one thing is sure: the Iranians have not given up on their ambitions to annihilate every single Jew. Whether the enemy is Hamas, Hezbollah, the Palestinian Authority or state actors like Iran, Israel needs to maintain a policy of total victory over these enemies.
In pursuing this war policy, the Jewish State must achieve national unity to realise its war goals. While that unity and the magnificent IDF operational expertise seen since the day after October 7, 2023, are more than capable of defeating the enemy, there is an existential diplomatic problem that denies Israel a free hand in executing its self-defence to the fullest of its abilities. That existential barrier is the United States of America’s self-interest, which often finds itself at loggerheads with Israel’s self-interest.
While President Trump basks in the afterglow of the U.S. attack on Iran’s nuclear sites, his insistence on a ceasefire between Israel and Iran severely harms Israel’s national interests. Indicative of Trump’s misunderstanding of the Middle East and the history between the Arab, Iranian, and Israeli conflicts is seen in his comment before the ceasefire went into full effect. ”We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the f— they’re doing.”
Well, Mr Trump, Israel knows clearly what it’s fighting for! The very survival of the Jewish State and Jews around the world. Iran and its proxies have made it very clear since 1979 that they will do all in their power to eliminate Israel from the map, and their pursuit of a nuclear bomb is the fulfilment of that heinous ambition. Israel is fighting for its very life! This off-the-cuff comment of Trump’s shows his total lack of understanding of Israel’s motivation since October 7 2023, to this day.
May G-d help us and deliver us from friends like these. Israel already has enough enemies!
