Picking Over the Bones of a Failed Presidency!
If Trump persists in his recent undermining of Israel, his Presidency will come to an abrupt halt, and his legacy will be one of failure. Others will pick his bones and reshape America in their image. What would that mean for Israel and the world at large?
Should President Trump not see out his second term in the White House, it would open the door for Vice President J. D. Vance to take the reins of government, setting America on an uncertain path. It would be highly likely that a Vance Presidency would pursue an isolationist policy, one built on America First, in which wars are spurned at all costs and limited to a narrow interpretation of self-defence. Vance would prefer soft power over military options. Despite the fact that soft power has proven limited and incapable of imposing the United States’ will on its enemies. This begs the question: does Vance have the sand to act preemptively should America be threatened with all-out war? The answer to that question lies in the velvet glove of soft power; does it conceal an iron hand or a limp wrist?
These questions are vital to Israel and the Europeans, who are unsure of America’s commitment to defend its allies when the chips are down. The answers may not be long in coming.
