April 19 a Day seeled in the minds of Jews forever (The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising)
Seventy-eight years ago today April 19, 1943, a handful of Jews refused to bend the knee and submit to annihilation by their Nazi tormentors.
Before that day Thousands of Jewish communities had suffered the fate of annihilation at the hands of cultured Europeans who planned and executed in deceit, with methodical precision that which could never be imagined by those who were to experience European hospitality.
These beasts were bent on the destruction of a people both physical and spiritual and would not relent till they had achieved their horrifying vision of a world free of Jews.
However their demonic plans would never be achieved. Despite their best efforts.
These Nazi’s suffered from a failure of intelligence, and an abuse of reason as do all anti-Semites.
And so on one cold dark morning in 1943 Jews rose up in defiance of their evil persecutors within the walls of the Warsaw ghetto, they would not go quietly to the gas chambers of Treblinka once it had become clear to them that they were all destined for extermination. As they had lived alone so they would fight alone against the might of the German war machine, undefeated, unrepentant and arrogant in all its viciousness.
Yet for ten days between April 19 and April 28, 1943, Jewish fighters valiantly opposed the armed might of Hitlers Legions. Men, women and children dared to believe in a future fought with courage and ultimate sacrifice of their lives for the sake of Jewish pride. They would not see the Promised Land but they would give those who would see it an example by which to live and fight for that cherished land.
And so today we remember those few who gave everything so we could have a future in a Jewish State where he and she can exercise their rights and obligations and where they can live with self-respect and dignity.
