Trump the Invisible Intellect!
In 1979, the movie ‘Being There’ starring Peter Sellers as a simple-minded gardener challenged the mindset of the rich and powerful in Washington, D.C Sellers became the confidant of the United States President, who hung on every imbecilic utterance of Sellers’ fool. Today, the gardener has taken up residence in the White House. He is not the first to stumble into the Oval Office, but he is certainly the most effective. President Donald J Trump has managed to win the Presidency twice while speaking in inarticulate gobbledegook. His latest foray into International Diplomacy saw him wax lyrical before China’s leader, Xi Jinping, suggesting the vast number of Chinese restaurants straddling the United States was indicative of the deep roots China and America shared. We don’t know how Chairman Xi received this mindspelling revelation, but we do know his reply to Trump’s attempt at power politics and winning Chinese hearts. Xi Jinping did not bother to return the gastronomic compliment by citing the number of McDonald’s fast-food outlets; instead, he went for the jugular, suggesting China is eclipsing the United States as the new world hegemon.
Xi posed the question ”Can the U.S. and China overcome the ‘Thucydides Trap’ and create a new paradigm for great power relations?” Simply put, Xi was laying down the terms for an American surrender, and all Trump could do was mumble nonsense about Chinese takeaways. Surely this revealed Trump’s inadequate intellect in dealing with world leaders. The invisible intellect was there for the world to see and declared, “The Emperor has no clothes.“
Yet again, following the Chinese theatre, Trump is now entering the last stage of revealing just how lacking he is in delivering a real, solid settlement between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States; instead, he is about to impede the fall of Iran’s leadership and give them Obama’s JCPOA mark II. Really, the gardener has managed to pull out the Roses and leave the Weeds behind.
Trump is no mastermind; instead, he is an invisible intellect.
