Zelensky hits a Sour Note when comparing the Russian Invasion to the Holocaust.
Zelensky hit a sour note when comparing the Russian invasion of Ukraine to the Holocaust during his Zoom address to the Israeli Knesset last night.
While it’s clear that Putin’s Russia is manifestly wrong in its naked aggression towards Ukraine the United States and others bare some responsibility to the current crisis when they encouraged Ukraine to seek membership in Nato which in effect would bring a Western military presence to Russia’s Western borders.
The West could not have failed to recognize Russian opposition to a provocative and from a Russian perspective an act of blatant aggression towards its sovereignty.
Zelensky’s passionate plea for International support in his country’s defense is completely understandable, however, his constant reference to likening Ukraine’s plight to that of the Holocaust was misplaced and poorly considered given the Jewish people’s history with the Ukrainian people which has been one of suffering, tribulations, persecution and expulsions, pogroms and their role in the “final solution.” These devils committed terrifying slaughter and destruction on Jews wherever they found them a cruel and satanic nation dedicated to the murder of men, women, children, and the elderly in cold blood.
Along with their German overlord humanity has not seen such monsters. Although 77 years have passed since the end of the Holocaust Jewish wounds have still not healed.
Israel is not insensitive to Ukraine’s wish to be independent of Russian control and the Jewish State is and will continue to help them where and when appropriate.
We as a nation are acutely aware of the importance of remembering the holocaust, despite the fact that a growing number of people around the world deny it, the Holocaust has seared into our minds, that the attempt to be a nation, without our own country, ends in Auschwitz. It’s also a reminder “The mercy of the nations is false” and we should never rely on them for our security.
So no Mr. President Zelensky using the Holocaust to garner sympathy and support for your cause just won’t do.
