Ceasefire Bedamed this is Capitulation !
No matter how much shine U.S. President Donald Trump attempts to put on the agreement to cease hostilities with Iran for a two-week period, leading to a permanent halt to the 40-day conflict between the antagonists, what we are seeing is a backdown by Trump. Information leaking from the Islamic Republic of Iran suggests that all the concessions are in Iran’s favour. Importantly, Tehran appears to have not conceded to the United States demands that it surrender its enriched uranium and give up its nuclear ambitions.
Trump has suggested that all war aims have been achieved and claims victory over the mullahs in Tehran. The facts on the ground would suggest otherwise. The Iranian regime still holds sway over life in Iran and maintains a functioning military, while its missile capabilities are diminished, they still pose a threat to the Gulf States, U.S. military facilities throughout the region and the Jewish State’s existence.
The great negotiator is more of a wet squib than a dominant business giant. The Mullahs have so far outlasted, outsmarted, and outnegotiated the King of spin.
Israel, on the other hand, deals with facts, not fantasies and sees the cessation of hostilities as a tactical mistake and political disaster. The ceasefire is a win not just for the Iranians but also for the Chinese, who will perceive the American backdown as a weakness in Western resolve and stomach for a prolonged all-out war. Once again, the United States has revealed its Achilles’ heel: the ‘economy stupid’ and an aversion to putting its military personnel in harm’s way. China knows that a country that sees its military as something to be wrapped in cottonwool has forgotten the purpose of a war machine. The Chinese assumptions of such a mindset are obvious.
Of course, an unpredictable Trump could unleash the ‘Dogs of War’ any time soon. If not, Trump will find self-surrender is self-defeating. For then there will be nothing left to defend. What, then, must the minimum action be? For America, that which they cannot give up without losing worldwide hegemony. As for Israel, its sovereignty and very existence are on the line; there is no room for political nuance just the hard cold facts of survival.
