Europe the Victim of Collective Security !

The Europeans are victims of collective security while trying to preserve traditional alliances that are diametrically opposed. The old alliances were directed against acknowledged threats that mirrored their shared national interests and security concerns. Whereas collective security defines no particular threat, guarantees no individual nation, and discriminates against none. In contrast, alliances tend to concentrate on a specific potential adversary. Collective security resorts to international law in the abstract and undermines national self-will.

This is Europe’s diplomatic sickness, threatening a security implosion. Turning its back on the United States at a time of war. Its leaders fail to see the long-range dangers looming ahead.

The Europeans are alarmed that Trump’s America may cut military ties, raising questions about NATO’s future. All this despite their reticence in supporting America’s Iranian campaign.

They either fail to see that their actions encourage a rising China or are guilty of playing the United States and China off against each other. The stakes are high, and the prospect of a new world order without the U.S. is one that the Europeans should seriously consider before it’s too late to reverse course.

Geopolitical considerations, along with the strategic importance of an involved America, should remain the basis for European legitimacy if it wishes to remain a sovereign entity over the next seven years.

Otherwise, Europe’s present situation will grow abnormal and descend into absurdity. Europe now stands at a crossroads that will determine its future one way or the other. A starting point for a renewed Europe would be its abandonment of collective security. It’s to be hoped saner heads rule the day!

Yosef Yigal Drever and Sylvia Drever co-founded Achdut HaLev in 2006 to reach out to the Jewish community's around the world providing support in learning Torah and promoting the 'Return of the Jewish people to the Land of Israel.' Yosef Yigal made Aliya in 2014 while Sylvia his wife is an Israeli. In late 2014 Achdut HaLev concentrated all its resources towards Aliya and the rebuilding of Eretz Yisrael. Excluding none and embracing all. The commandment to settle the Land of Israel is equal in importance to all the Torah Commandments all together: (Sifri Deut 12:29)
