Israel Municipal Elections Katzrin The Arab Vote.
Israelis will vote on October 31 in Municipal elections. Likewise, Katzrin capital of the Golan will select a new council and Mayor for the next four years. In the ongoing campaign to ‘Keep Katzrin Jewish, ‘ it’s imperative to understand the Arab vote, who they vote for, and why.
In a previous article, Think Global Act Local-Katzrin In The Cross-Hairs. August 6, 2023. I suggested that within Five years, Katzrin could have an Arab-dominated council with an Arab Mayor at its head.
That’s why the question who will the Arab block vote for in the upcoming election is so crucial for the future. Current Mayor Dimi Apartsev, who has relied on the Russian vote to secure victory in the past, is now facing a strong campaign from newcomer Yehuda Dua who is garnering the growing English-speaking community and a large section of the Hebrew speakers.
While Dimi Apartsev’s traditional power base may no longer guarantee him outright victory given the changing demographics of Katzrin, he may seek the opportunity to curry favour with the burgeoning Arab population tipping the balance to his advantage.
Could such horse trading open the way to a Muslim community centre and Mosque being built in the heart of Katzrin? If so, the floodgates to an Arab migration to Katzrin would be inevitable with all the consequences of a split community on an ethnic-religious faultline.
A Jewish Katzrin would have joined the great adventure of annihilation, like a suicide bent on self-destruction. Living the tyranny of Jewish illusion.
Should any candidate choose pragmatism over character, they will have committed an error in venality or swindling. A case of Jews being betrayed by other Jews.
Your article certainly makes a very good point. Hits the nail on the head!
Yochanan, your support is always appreciated.
We have a changing demographic with 44 Arab familys already calling Katzrin home. They are only the beginning. When their numbers reach 10% of the community there demands for Arab accomodation will start.
