October 7 and the Tet Offensive!
In 1968, The Americans had become convinced the Viet Cong were on the ropes, exhausted and demoralised. They were soon to be awoken from their delusions of victory when the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese People’s Army of Vietnam launched a surprise attack on 30 January 1968 against elements of the South Vietnamese Army and the United States Armed Forces and their allies. The operation was unleashed during a holiday period as most South Vietnamese soldiers were on leave for the holiday.
The Allied forces were taken by surprise, initially retreating from several cities. Eventually, the American-led forces regrouped and inflicted heavy casualties. In the city of Hue, the fighting continued for a month.
While the Tete offensive failed in its objectives, it led to a backlash within many parts of the American public and the world more broadly. From then on, support for the war declined until America withdrew from Vietnam. Up until then, the West had been led to believe by its political and military leaders that North Vietnam was being defeated and incapable of staging an ambitious military operation.
Parallels can be dangerous when misused. My reason for drawing on the Tete offensive is to alert Israel to the danger of believing Hezbollah, and its allies are in no condition to launch a massive assault on the Jewish State on October 7 or October 24. This would be a misjudgement of October 7 proportions.
Like the Tet Offensive, the IDF would steady the ship and go on the offensive, wiping out the Hezbollah forces arrayed against them, unlike the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese. Hezbollah would be throwing its last dice. Its teeth finally pulled, leaving Iran vulnerable to attack and limited in its response to an Israeli Offensive should its nuclear option remain in the development stage.
In the meantime, the Europeans and the Biden-Harris administration are riding to the rescue of Iran, Hezbollah and the remnants of Hamas attempting to fraught an Israeli victory.
One must ask the question, whose side are they actually on?
Iran is more like America in this analogy. The mullahs are trapped. Obamunists have one shot and that is to kill Trump.
