Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei !

What does Mojtaba Khamenei’s election as Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran hold for the region and beyond? First and foremost, revenge. Khamenei will take every opportunity to avenge the blood of his father and other members of his family who have fallen victim to the war with Israel and its ally America.

His election will not be a second revolution to correct failures in the first but an attempt to preserve the Islamic Republic unchanged and unbending. For him personally, his leadership will be a means of eliminating the killers of the late Supreme Leader Ali Hosseinei Khamenei.

Whatever one may think of the Islamic Republic of Iran, its leaders have been consistent in their beliefs and vision for Iran and have maintained a deep mistrust of all outsiders and see every action affecting them as proof of sinister intent on the part of the West and Israel in particular.

Allergies that extreme don’t easily disappear, and the Islamic Republic has lasted long and is yet to see its own demise. Despite endemic corruption and the use of tyranny in Iran’s leadership over the last 47 years, leading to the ruination of the country, its hold on power appears as firm as ever. If the current war fails to bring down the regime, a time of bloodletting not seen since Stalin eliminated millions of his own people will be unleashed on real and perceived domestic enemies while hunting down the killers of Ali Khamenei. The Regime cannot survive if peace is to take hold in the Middle East.

The coming weeks will reveal the unknown unknowns.
