Trump Chamberlain and a Piece of Paper !

In 1938, Great Britain’s Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain returned from Munich after meeting with Germany’s absolute leader, Adolf Hitler, with a piece of paper that Chamberlain declared represented ‘Peace in our Time’. Chamberlain was to regret his moment of hubris when, a year later, the world was plunged into a war not seen before. Chamberlain would have been better served by avoiding extravagant predictions. In the end, it was just a piece of paper and nothing more.

Eighty-eight years later, and United States President Donald J Trump is presented with another worthless piece of paper, compliments of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as Tehran offers a potential agreement to give up its Nuclear ambitions as well as dismantle its ballistic missile programme.

This is not going to happen today or tomorrow. For the Religious leaders of Iran, the issue of peace in the Middle East does not trump the eventuality of nuclear weapons in Iran. There is no piece of paper that will prevent their appearance. No matter how strong the White House’s vision for peace, the reality outside is very different. America can strive to reach a geopolitical understanding with Iran on the basis of war, war, jaw, jaw to no avail.

Trump may get his piece of paper, but the reality will be a jihadist regime at heart, orchestrating direct assaults on American and Israeli interests, while in the meantime, Tehran will offer all sorts of concessions, each one more worthless than the one before. In the end its just a piece of paper.

Excluding none and embracing all. The commandment to settle the Land of Israel is equal in importance to all the Torah Commandments all together: (Sifri Deut 12:29)
