WHEN AMERICA SNEEZES THE REST OF THE WORLD CATCHES A COLD!
As the old financial cliche goes ‘When America sneezes the rest of the world catches a cold.’ The cliche could also address a United States going through a seismic change to its core values and culture.
Two things are taking place simultaneously throughout the world and currently can be seen in America in particular.
They are an identity crisis and a moral vacuum of the modern Western culture whose seeds can be found in the decline of spiritual values which have been usurped by the technological revolution that is amoral and can only give power, on its own, it is a poor substitute for moral certitude. In effect, the current crisis of western society is essentially an identity crisis. When one digs beneath the surface of the shallow and narcissistic West you find a people desperate for reassurance of who they are and what’s it all mean.
They know their future is uncertain and just maybe it has no purpose and their leaders have no credible answer to their anxiety’s and so they choose immediate gratification and indulge the fleeting pleasures of their morally bankrupt society’s. It follows that the superficial pleasures and moral and spiritual impoverishment that is their lot have led many of them to participate in the mindless destruction of the symbols of a past that challenges their present cultural void and is a stark reminder of their seemingly hopeless future. This orphaned generation has no idea how to escape a human condition whose meaning escapes them. Their parents have given them a world where values are to be mocked and discarded without a thought to what may come in their stead.
All values are now contradictory to what was once accepted as moral behaviour. They have forgotten that absolute values are not abstract entities to be reassigned to fit current mores.
If they want to know why this moral implosion has so easily taken hold of present-day society one need look no further than the ‘Gates of Auschwitz and if they want to know the remedy they need look no further than the ‘Return of the Jewish people to the Land of Israel’ and their response to its ongoing success. Their future well-being and return to moral judgement will rest on their response to the above.
