Itamar Ben Gvir on a Beating to Nothing!
Itamar Ben Gvir has chosen the wrong battle to achieve his political ends by voting against the “Trapped Profits Bill” last week, forcing Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to leave his hospital bed post-surgery to ward off a narrow defeat in the Knesset that could have led to early elections.
The Government has retaliated by imposing a moratorium on Government bills initiated by the National Security Ministry, and only those deemed necessary to the national security of the State will be supported.
Ben Gvir could reasonably argue that he was not motivated by personal prestige but rather by a political principle at stake. But could anything be more ridiculous than to jump from one excuse to another unrelated issue to support his refusal to stand with the Government of which he is a Minister?
It can only be hoped for the sake of unity within the government and the country’s future well-being that the recent deep rancour that has scarred Netanyahu-Gvir relations will be put to rest and a consensus of good government for the people will come to the fore and policies will be supported in a mood and style likely to conciliate the Prime Minister with his National Security Minister.
Otherwise, Itamar Ben Gvir will find himself on a ‘Beating to Nothing!’
