Turkey a Lethal Threat to Israel!
Turkey is looming as a lethal threat to the Jewish State’s existence as it cements its position in Syria and pushes Iran and Russia out of the Levant. Erdogan has achieved a very significant victory over his competitors in Russia and Iran with the overthrow of their client Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria.
Erdogan has played his options with the two alliances available to him, the United States on one side and Russia on the other, masterfully over the last decade, resulting in Syria falling into his orbit. In doing so, he has made himself indispensable to America while freeing himself from the unequal alliance with Tehran and Moscow, whose proximity to Ankara was and remains a threat with their imperial foreign policy agendas set on becoming the dominant power at the expense of Turkey and Israel. We now can see that Erdogan’s deals with Putin and Khameneh are ad hoc decisions, not at all his strategic vision to allow Russia and Iran to dictate the limits of Turkey’s regional ambitions.
This does not mean that Erdogan has decided to go with the United States but instead continues to play both sides off each other while establishing Turkey as the dominant power in the Middle East. The new situation in Syria has opened the door for Erdogan to restart his mission to make Turkey great again, influencing the Sunni Arab world where possible and confronting the West when opportune.
Turkey now believes the time has come for its return as an autonomous power in the Middle East, a stand-alone great power with influence over the Middle East and former Ottoman areas like the Western Balkans.
These policy choices and Turkey’s role in the new Syria will inevitably bring Turkey and Israel into confrontation, eventually leading to all-out conflict on a scale not seen in the region before.
We haven’t even mentioned Russia and Iran’s next move in answer to their ignominious withdrawal from the region nor the elephant in the room, Xi Jinping’s China. The year 2025 promises to be one out of the hat.
